Fried Turkey
We fried our first turkey. Doesn't it look good?
Doug couldn't wait until we got it to the table to taste it. He's trying to be sneaky......
Didn't quite work! We caught you!

USS Kidd
While the kids were on their Mardi Gras Break (yes, they really do get days off school for Mardi Gras), we discovered Baton Rouge. We went to the USS Kidd. It is a battleship from WW II. First, we went through the museum.
Again, I was a wonderful mom/photographer and let the kids make bunny ears.
The museum had displays on all kinds of boats.
Then, we went out onto the USS Kidd. It was really fascinating. I won't even try to go over everything. Just take my advice and go see it.

Fireball
Josh participated in the Pinewood Derby. He designed the car and did most of the work (Doug did help with the table saw but it was definitely Josh's car). When it came time to paint it, I asked Josh what color to buy. He said red, orange, yellow and white. Can't you just pick ONE color? I went to WalMart and found paint for less than a dollar so I splurged and got all 4 colors he wanted.
Doug and I were blown away by the paint job. Where did this creativity come from?!? His parents are engineers! He named the car "Fireball."

Mardi Gras
Since we have moved to Southern Louisiana, we have learned that Mardi Gras is a BIG deal here. It seems everyone celebrates it in some fashion....even this statue in downtown Baton Rouge!
We have seen Mardi Gras lights, Mardi Gras wreaths and a Mardi Gras tree! Kara said it reminded her of the Charlie Brown Christmas tree....only a Mardi Gras tree.
So, do you think Doug would let me keep the Christmas tree up longer if I call it a Mardi Gras tree starting in January?
